Domaine des Bosquets Gigondas

With an incredible history dating back to 1376, Domaine des Bosquets now has an incredible 26 hectares of vines which are up to 75 years old. Grown in a region of high altitude, the wine thrives due to the climate, altitude and exposure to the sun to deliver a wine which is incredibly fresh and very well balanced. When the fruits are harvested, they are then destemmed and crushed to be transferred into the stainless steel vats by means of gravity. Following a fermentation period at temperatures of 28 degrees Celsius, the wine is then matured for 18 months, where 12 of these were spent in French oak barrels. The result is a deep red coloured wine with intense notes of black fruit and smoky oak.

Hand harvested. De-stemmed, all three varietals were fermented together. 7 days pre fermentation maceration, was followed by an 8 day fermentation at 28C with regular délestage. 20 days further maceration with regular pumping over. 60% transferred to vats and 40% to oak barrels for mlf and 12 months ageing. Blended then aged a further 6 months in cuve prior to bottling.

Tasting Notes: Very dark, almost black in colour with a complex nose of both red and black fruit, sweet liquorice and violets. On the palate this full bodied wine displays great balance between its richness, freshness and minerality. Its fine tannins make this a wine both for drinking now and for developing with age.
