The Teeling family name and it's history in creating Irish Whiskey dates back to 1782 when Walter Teeling established his distillery in the Newmarket area, in the Liberties in Dublin. Some years later at the beginning of the 20th Century, the distillery was then sold to a member of the Jameson family. Many years later, that original Teeling distillery closed, among many others, at a time when Whiskey sales plummeted in Ireland. At one stage there was 100 operational distilleries in Ireland collapsed to just two in 1970, which later John Teeling would base his P.h.D in Harvard on that very subject!!
John Teeling launched Cooley Whiskey in 1987 and his main aim was to re-launch forgotten Irish whiskey brands. In early 2012, John Teeling sold Cooley Whiskey for $95 Million. Then, his sons, John and Jack, launched their whiskey company in 2011, and whiskey has been flowing continuously in Newmarket, since 2015.
